END DISCRIMINATION AND HARASSMENT ON CAMPUS

Throughout my three years as a student I have seen countless instances of racial insensitivity and anti-semitism that have made students excluded and uncomfortable attending school. The administration is largely unfazed by the culture of bigotry on-campus. It’s time to demand action and implement rules that ensure real consequences for discrimination.

  • Add disciplinary measures for discrimination to the Student Code of Conduct, Faculty Code, and Employee Handbook

  • Apply disciplinary measures appropriate for discrimination and harassment

  • Demand a GWPD internal policy that guarantees equal respect for all students

  • Condemn and expose bigotry by administrators

FOOD ACCESSIBILITY

An essential component of food affordability is access to groceries, and it simply unacceptable that food researchers in DC deemed Thurston, Potomac, Mitchell, and 1959 E as being in a food desert, because they're 0.5 miles away from a grocery store and residents don’t own cars. A student-run grocery coop on the southern end of campus would solve this problem and provide a valuable employment opportunity for students.

  • Collaborate with the administration on the planning of incoming dining halls

  • Create a student run grocery cooperative

  • Develop and expand sustainable meal choices for students on Mt. Vernon

FINANCIAL AID

Anybody who has dealt with our financial aid system knows it’s synonymous with confusion, stress, and opacity. The current process is stressful to both students and workers as many students are forced to double back to the office multiple times for the same issue due to misinformation. We need a transparent reporting process and a responsive financial aid office, especially given GW’s costly tuition.

  • Develop a Financial Aid Student Advisory Council

  • Build a timeline so students know when scholarships or aid will go into effect

  • Eliminate late fees for accounts with a low balance

  • Increase transparency in the financial aid office by publishing wait times

DIVESTMENT

The climate crisis is the defining issue of our time and any institution that continues to invest in the fossil fuel industry is part of the problem. GW’s stance on decreasing the impacts of climate change must come to fruition through complete divestment.

  • Grant the SA President a vote on the Board of Trustees to advance divestment

  • Divest completely from fossil fuel companies

  • Invest in renewable energy companies
